Trixie Land SFL3 - Powerup Concepts by DocWario Trixie Land SFL3 - Powerup Concepts by DocWario
So this is supposed to be a reinterpretation of Wario's power-ups from Wario Land SML3. I'm not dead-set on costuming, these were sorta w/o research or reference.

Oh, I'm not making this mod

I'm trying to get you to make it

gawd

I might do some of the spriting.

I have many bullet points about why this would be an awesome game to romhack

w/ mostly guessing on the limitations of romhacks

to be honest, I'm not that familiar with actually subbing sprites into games, generating sprites into sheets roms can understand, etc - I never got that close into it. I've always been more about the art end myself XD;; That and sort of conceptualizing how you could re-write the existing story elements of a game to fit a different story and characters.

This was said discussion journal about super mario rpg back in the day Ponified Super Mario RPG Concept DiscussionHopefully I made you ponies think this existed. I don't think it does.
But WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT? I've been looking for an excuse to play that game again for the 12th time without it feeling predictable.
DON'T LEAVE! I've been thinking about this for the past week and wanna just throw some concepts out there and see what you ponies think of them. You know, for fun! I don't think I'd have the time or patience to make this happen, so this is all fantasizing. But, fantasizing CONCEPTUALLY. You should have probably beaten this game for this discussion to make sense.
A teense of bg
I love reconceptualization. That's why I like rewriting songs or planning rom hacks I never do. Just taking something pre-existing, and rewriting EVERY PART so that it makes sense under a new storyline and character set, is just tons of fun.
My ultimate dream, after playing through like 1/20th of Super Monkey RPG (a supposedly full-text-edit of SMRPG) would be to recontextualize SMRPG. Such a great game, and an

Alright, I said I could give it a shot and after some browsing it might just be possible.
Why do a romhack when you can crate it from scratch?

I have never played WL but I would guess it is similar to the mario style which would mean a side scrolling platform. We could have Trixie collect little spheres of energy to increse a cutie mark meter and once it is filled we could have her level up.

The armour would most likely have to have a time limit, but that's up to debate.

The plot seems to have something to do with Fluttershy and Trxie, so I would need to know what type of plot you were looking for, key points or detail are both fine.

I am not sure if it is within my ability, but if you want it multiplayer(As in 2 people battling against the computer) then I know some people who can give me a few pointers, but again I need to know if you wish it. We could possibly make Twilight the 'Luigi' to Trixie(Mario) to stir things up, but that is just an idea.

We would also need to decide on enemies. We could have manticores as the goombas and the gryphons as the koopas maybe. I would have to figure out how to make them similar but again it should be possible.

We could make Fluttershy the boss, maybe she could be objecting to some animal related thing or been taken over by some evil parisite or whatever, again I need to know the details of what you require in a plot.

And lastly, we need a sprite designer and maybe a voice actor.

So more or less I need a reply from you before I can begin.

To give a brief about how warioland works, he has two moves - charge and butt stomp. These moves can defeat enemies, but also destroy blocks. much fun comes from destroying many blocks. There are often doors hidden behind blocks that contain special treasures.

You can also pick up and throw enemies, to hit switches, destroy blocks, destroy special enemy-only blocks, etc, which gave the game a nice bit of a puzzle feel, at least when looking for the more hidden treasures.

Collecting treasure in this game is accounted for at the end, where, depending on how much you've collected, you get a better ending. this includes the values of special treasures, in addition to basic coin collecting.

I would have the main boss be Twilight or someone like that. In Super Mario Land 2, you plays as mario and had to defeat wario - but in Wario Land, there was an entirely new main boss - Captain syrup, a pirate. Mario shows up briefly at the end. I like the concept of keeping this conflict between Trixie and Twilight, seeing as how the treasures were to be replaced with items of magical significance, but also important to twilight, so perhaps that Trixie is in this way taking some of Twi's lingering power...

Also, there are a wide variety of enemies, but standard enemies are little pirate ball-shaped guys with spears, and ducks that throw boomerangs and such. I wasn't quite sure how to make these enemies look, but possibly as some sort of minion of twilight

-----+-+-----

that, however, was just a brief overview of the gameplay mechanics that already exist, and how I was envisioning the story as a recontextualization of that. If you're working from scratch, it could be done any number of ways. I would keep twilight as the main boss, make key characters like iron will, manticore, etc (though I guess manticore could be an enemy), and I might try to have minions of twilight/dragons/ponies as some common-looking enemies with different abilities (some throw things, some have spears, etc).

I would also keep picking up and throwing enemies, as a unicorn I would imagine totally possible and the puzzle solving aspect is quite nice.

These are all just suggestions, I make these things more to inspire then anything else... if you have other ideas I'd be happy to back and fourth them. I haven't sprited in a long while so I'm a bit out of touch with it, and I'm not sure how much time I have to get back into it, but I am interested in being involved... you can see a bit earlier some concept sprites for trixie if she were replacing a B/W Wario

hope this helps, and thanks for your interest!

That does indeed help. We have a lot of things to go over, and I have to follow the proper procedure to make sure we don't forget anything.

If you like, I can give you a short list of character we would need the sprites of.

The main ones of course are Twilight

Posisble enemies would be something else we would have to brainstorm. We could have Gryphons stick their claw out as the 'spear', and have the dragons 'boomerang' their flames.

So much to think about, so much exitement :D
I have one important assignment I have to complete beforehand. After that I have plenty of time to spend on this project.

I guess we could make it if we decide and it's plausible to have the second player play snips or snails for laughs XD

So Trixie would need to be able to pick up and drop certain objects. And a second attack to sharge through objects. And a buttion to jump and move lef and right.

Also about the 'glide' suit. I think it would be better to make it similar to yoshi eating a blue koopa and gaining the temporary ability to fly.

XD and we could have it when the timer runs out it says on the screen 'Trixies clothes are slightly torn, Trixie refuses to wear them any longer'

Any more ideas?

The thing about the Wario glide is it's more of an in-air dash - think like the upgraded boots from Megaman x3. It doesn't really need to be temporary because the flight distance is really limited.

A list of sprites would be handy for sure. I'd also encourage you to watch perhaps the beginning of a WL playthrough vid on youtube to get an idea of those mechanics, to see if they inspire you similarly or, if you'd like to take it in a different direction :)

We're talking a dual-button system here, originally. Button A is jump. Button B is charge. jumping on an enemy's head doesn't kill them, it flips them over. Simply running into a flipping enemy will cause wario to pick them up. Now button B has become throw. a simple tap of button b causes a gentle toss. Holding b and then releasing causes wario to throw the enemy in a straight line ahead of him.

The horned helmet has a slightly faster running charge, I think, and the flight suit gives you a fast charge that can also be activated mid-jump. The dragon's cowl replaces the charge with a stream of fire you can shoot while walking or standing still.

That's old news. In terms of new news...

General cronies should be small characters. Manticores would make nice large-size enemies (large being roughly equivocal to wario's dimensions), if not an early boss. Mid-size enemies (about half wario's size) could include the princess's guars, who could be equipped with speaers and weaponry. Figuring out the small enemies is toughest. Fillies are a great size for that, but we don't really want trixie throwing ponykids all over the place XD

Perhaps, then, bunnies. Bunnies with spiked helmets, bunnies with little spears. This would keep a nice connection to fluttershy w/o having to include her somuch. I would also consider, book-based enemies. Think the sorcerer's apprentice, except twilight has enchanted the whole library, turning her favorite works of literature into walking warrios of binded paper.

You gotta admit that last one has both a nice wacky videogame story setup, and like, the perfect tie-in for twilight as the main villain (good villain). In terms of considering where they came from, and a gigantic library of books all being turned into soldiers, it's cute and it's perfect XD.

Perhaps we should draft a google doc for collecting this info, or maybe converse in email so something harder copy exists.
