Japan? The naming weirdness in Japan mainly comes from when they take two-word phrases, cut off all but the first two syllables of each word, and then squish those four syllables together to create a combo abbreviation of sorts. For example: jogging pants are called training pants over there (in English). Training pants = toreening pantsu (that's to-re-e-ni-n-gu pa-n-tsu) --> torepan. Seriously, they do this all the damn time.
